First of all, I love my Prius and this forum! Is my JBL system (non-Nav) supposed to have the adjustable ASL? I only have "on" or "off". With it "on", it sounds too bass heavy, even with adjustments, so I leave it "off" which is fine. I guess I just want to make sure I got what I paid for. Also, there are mentions of DSP. Is that an adjustable option also? Thanks in advance for the help.
On the JBL systems, even the Navs, you only have the ASL with either on or off. There is no adjustment for this. I am not sure what the DSP is that you refer to. Where are you seeing this, in the Owner's Manual?
The JBL system already has DSP (digital signal processing) switched on...permanently. ASL is either on or off...no in between. The reason ASL is bassy at speed is because the best way to overcome road noise is to add bass. For me and a few others, my settings are all FLAT (zero; in the middle) with ASL ON.
It's those darned ears again making audio analysys subjective. I'm down 3 bars on the treble setting and now John Lennon's voice sounds like John Lennon's voice and cymbals and horns are now back in the band where they belong instead of out front. Both other controls are flat though with ASL on.
In Germany they sell a 6 or a 8 speaker set up. I have the latter. It is not sold as "JBL", but it does have an extra amplifier underneath the passenger seat. It gives me access to ASL, with 3 different settings (Lo, Mid, Hi). I have no other DSP setting to adjust, except the obvious bass/treble/fad settings.
