good day, new prius owner here. just bought it used. 2010, 1 owner, 56k miles. model V with the "Advanced Technology Package". i'm gonna play with it in the next few days and i bet i will come up with some questions. for now i'd love to get a recommendation on where to bring the car for a good look over. anyone can point me to a prius specialist in Denver/Colorado? if you are a guy or girl who is pretty knowledgeable about a 3rd gen prius (but not necessarily a mechanic), i'd love to meet with you as well to go trough some details. i pay the beer. thanks and cheers, andreas
Not my time zone so I have no service experience with Boulder Hybrids: Services | Boulder Hybrids but Paul Guzyk was very knowledgeable/helpful during his presentations at the last national PriusChat gathering.
Do you know anything about the car's maintenance history? If it's from a hands-off, dealership serviced car, maintenance items that might need attention: 1. Transsaxle fluid change (Not on Toyota's schedule, but worthwhile, especially a first change, then every 30000 miles or so.) 2. Brake fluid change (Only recently added to Toyota schedule, I believe tri-yearly, regardless of mileage) 3. Brake condition, pads, rotors, caliper pin lubrication (There's a misguided consensus that Prius brakes last forever. They may be ok, but worth a look-over.) 4. 12 volt battery state of health (Might be fine, but getting on, worth checking.)
thank you Mendel, it was a trade in from a dealership. this dealership did not do the maintenance though. the carfax showed that it had done all maintenance and just recently "Front brake rotor(s) resurfaced". once i found a shop that i like, i will check your list with them.
Welcome Sam! I'd suggest you read this ; Gen II Prius Care, Maintenance and Troubleshooting | PriusChat Most of it still applies to the Gen III pri. Maintenance costs are based on what they claim you NEED ... but stuff you MUST do and what Toyota says you "need right now" are sometimes worlds apart even when it's related to maintained intervals. Especially if you have any basic do-it-yourself skills. Enjoy!
