New to Prius World

    I've had my 2013 4 door Hatchback Prius for 4 months (I love IT!). I recently noticed that when I start
    the car the gas motor kicks in, and not the EV mode, which it didn't in the beginning. It doesn't always do it,
    but I would say 50% of the time. I just want to make sure this is normal.

    It's normal. The gas engine (ICE) should always start. It's programed that way to reduce pollution. It runs until the temperature reaches normal.

    welcome to priuschat! it might start a little quicker in the heat of summer. keep an eye on your mpg's, that's a better indicator of problems developing. all the best!(y)
