My black leather trifold wallet has finally bit the dust after about 20 years. The kids (my wife, actually, as those of you with small children know), bought for me for Christmas one year. Wife had asked me what to buy. I told her a $9 Buxton. I end up with a $40 Wilson House of Leather monster that I hated for years. It was near impossible to get cards out of the wallet and tough to get them back in. After about 10 years it finally loosened up enough that it was O.K. Anyway, was all set to buy a new RFID blocking wallet as I keep hearing that is what I need to be safe. Then I stumble across something in my internet travels that say the technology is great, but you don't need it. I find lots of news articles saying consumers don't need RFID blocks. Huh. Things I had saw had me convinced I did. Well, that saves me about half on the cost of the wallet. LOL>
I don't know how long I've owned it. Pretty bad when it's been so long you can't even remember. But I carry a black nylon velcro wallet that just won't wear out. I've replaced from time to time the plastic windows, but the wallet itself just keeps going. I've occasionally eyed leather wallets, and/or just a new wallet, the advantage being it would probably look a lot better. BUT... There's advantage in pulling out a wallet that actually shocks other people with it's aged look.
My eel skin wallet did not survive the beagle (nor the credit cards and one bill.) So I replaced it with a kevlar/sale cloth one that has just one tooth mark. Bob Wilson
I have to believe that actual wallets will eventually join the growing list of items that are no longer used by people. I personally carry very little in my wallet - just ID and a credit card.
Those RFID wallets also extend the life of rubber and latex...haha Yet, Coach leather wallets for the win.
I went with a lambskin River Ridge wallet for $10 from a locally owned store. Half the price I would have paid for the exact same wallet on Amazon and about 70 percent cheaper than the RFID wallets I was originally looking at. Sad state when wallets disappear.
Too true. I'm a bit of a cash luddite, but you can sense the writing on the wall. 'Nother thing I'm noticing more and more in stores: not is there no price tag on items, there's nothing on the shelf, or anywhere: don' worry, be happy, give 'em your plastic.
