Or at least I thought I new how to, that is, use the "send PM" function, write my PM and choose "send". But I have never received any answers from anyone, nor do my PMs appear in the "sent" folder. Edit: Messages are not in my sent-folder because I did not tick the "add a copy to my sent folder" option. And I just got my first PM which is a reply from another member!
