Firstly hello to everyone and thanks for taking the time to read this post. As you can see I'm a newbie and this is my first post on priuschat, i am in London England so for the records i own a toyota Prius Plus / Alpha as it is a Japanese import. so let me get straight to the point. i recently went a purchased a used original Prius radio/navigation system model panasonic 59014. after figuring out all the terrible connection made for an aftermarket radio install i managed to get back to basics and install the original toyota system but the issue i have is that the system is not outputting any sound, i have triple checked this and can verify that it is the system at fault and not any wiring so my question is this, does anybody know how or if it is possible to fix such a problem with the unit and is it an easy fix or something not even worth attempting. cheers for any help provided.
welcome joe! i don't know anything about electronics, but just to clarify, you had a working radio, you tried to replace it but found the wiring incompatible, so you reinstalled the working radio and now it doesn't work. is this correct?
Hi sorry maybe I've made it sound confusing. The car came with an after market radio which works but was not original to the car and i wasn't happy with it. I went and purchased a original toyota radio one that would have come standard with navigation n the car from the main dealer but when i installed this system no sound would come out of the speakers at all and i tried all the tricks in the book to see if the wiring was at fault or the system and i found it to be the system at fault and its not out putting sound at all. so can this system be fixed so it does output sound or am I'm up a creek without a paddle cheers and i hope this makes it clearer as to the issue.
i guess the answer is, it depends, right? if you are 100% convinced it is in the radio, does a warranty not apply?
yes tried it as i thought about that but nothing. hooked up external speakers to make sure it wasn't the wires playing up and noting at all.
could just be a bad seller, but hopefully someone else with electronic knowledge will offer suggestions. everything else works? touchscreen? gps, and etc.?
Everything else works exactly as it should just no sound. thanks for the replies and yes hopefully someone might be able to shed some light cheers
Sounds like the amplifier inside the radio is not working. I would return it or see if a reputable audio store can repair it. Some factory radios have external amplifiers but yours does not sound like this is the case, especially since you connected speakers directly to the output wires with no sound.
Didn't some Prius have an amplifier under the driver's seat? I think it was some with the JBL speakers. @Tideland Prius would know.
i was thinking about an external amplifier but i had a look under the seats and noting at all and also i don't have a loom connection in the dash for an external amp so it definitely has an internal. i could look down the return it route but you know what its like sometimes the money you spend on returning an item over distance and the weight of the package outways its worth and it can be cheaper to get it fixed in this case if possible. i think seeing as everything other than sound works it would make sense to try and fix it
The JBL audio amplifier is under the left front seat and the navigation under the right front seat. For some reason, I'm thinking it's under the passenger seat. I know it's not in the same location for Prius or Prius v. But either way, it's under the front seats... one of them. He doesn't have the JBL audio so no external amplifier there.
Thanks for the replies so far on this. i will upload some pictures of the exact system i have and if anyone knows the internal working and how it could be fixed then that would be excellent
