Just checking the Nissan UK website for an update on the Nissan Leaf and found that they are now displaying the price! The website indicates a cost of £23,350 inc vat (sales tax) after deduction of a £5,000 government EV grant. This figure compares pretty favourably with the Prius which currently is priced between £19,950 and £22,610. Check out the following for comfirmation; Nissan cars, vans, fleet and services Any indications on US/Canada pricing yet?
That's not bad. I think it's about US$35k before incentives, right? No Canadian pricing yet. In fact, no word whether it would even be sold here at all! (If so, it would only be in Vancouver and Toronto)
The figure was after government incentives, but does include 17.5% sales tax. I know the figure will be much less in the US due to lower sales tax and different market conditions but I was also showing how the Leaf compares to the Prius price wise. It is very keenly priced against the Prius and I do wonder how many Prius owners will jump ship to the Leaf? Obviously not all of them will but I think Nissan are onto a winner.
the Leaf upgrade package is $33,000 with about a $7,000 tax rebate. in WA state, we also have sales tax exempt if delivered by 12/31. that is another nearly $3000 off. so all in all, it would be cheaper than my 2010 (which i also did not pay sales tax on !!)
Thats what Nissan is doing in every market - price it at around Prius after rebates/credits. In US Prius price ranges from $22.8K to $28k. Leaf is priced in the middle at $25.7.
