I sometimes manually cut the headlights on during the day and I noticed that there is no bell or dinger that alerts me that they're on when the car is cut off. I assume the lights will cut themselves off after a period of time? Just concerned I might kill the battery if I don't notice I left them on.
Yes, no warning chime, because they will automatically turn off. I still turn off the headlights manually because I don't leave it to chance that the will. I don't want to end up with a dead battery if the lights stay on.
I believe there is a vehicle setting that lets you adjust the amount of delay, including none (they go off immediately). It seems like I saw it when I as looking for the DRL setting.
The auto-off delay can be configured to 0, 30, 60, or 90 seconds. But do beware that it is possible to defeat the auto-off feature, such as by exiting through the passenger side door, or by turning the lights off then back on after shutting down the ignition. Therefore, after shutting down, if you touch the light switch at all, then you must leave if OFF.
If I leave the headlight on "AUTO" setting, yeah: they'll turn off automatically. But as far as I know, if I have them set to regular headlights on position, or parking lights only, the car gives NO warning. Just happily burns down the battery.
The Prius three doesn't have Auto setting on the stalk, no warning chime, lights (Parking/Lowbeams) go off after timeout. The Camry has Auto setting, lights also turn off after timeout. Don't know about parking lights, haven't tried those.
Mine looks like the pic. To tell you the truth: I haven't got the guts to test what I said about the headlights not going out, maybe some braver soul can?
I don't have the auto headlights on my 2010 Prius 11. I have left them on to see what happens and they always turn off after 30 sec.
This may be a difference between Canadian and U.S. market models. My manual pictures several varieties of turn stalk markings, with and without AUTO (as in auto-on, not the simpler auto-off), none of which exactly match my equipment.
i adjusted to 0. while i manually turn them off, my wife does not. i see no purpose of that 30 seconds stressing this tiny 12V battery.
The delay is so one can get to the front door, etc with illumination from the headlights. In other words, a safety/convenience feature.
