I just bought a used 2010 Prius. It was in a prior head-on collision and the dealership replaced the converter but that's it. Everything works fine and my mechanic said he couldn't see any other damage. The only (big) thing is that on the energy monitor, there are no arrows to show power flow. My average MPG is 35. The battery indicator displays about 1/2 to 3/4 battery charge. What could be going on?
The other display screens seem to be working fine. The hybrid system display works as I'm driving (i.e. the bar moves back/forth).
35 mpg is pretty poor. As you can see in my fuelly icon in my signature below, we have no problem reaching and surpassing the EPA average of 50 mpg for the Gen 3 Prius.
With that kind of mileage, it might not be using the traction battery and electric motor, just the combustion engine. Maybe that's why the arrows don't show up on the power split display?
That's impossible if you know how HSD works. The engine can't even start w/o one of the MGs in the power split device.
Indeed. Salvage title car have basically no warranty from Toyota. This is pretty standard industry practice.
I knew the original warranty wouldn't cover it but I'll take it into the place I bought it. I just would have liked to know what to say to them to fix. For example, the power train isn't working....or something else that makes me appear to know what I'm talking about.
the power flow display is not working. did you get an owners manual, it names each display, and explains the function and data. the problem is, your mpg's are inadequate, and the display is just a reflection. there are so many possibilities, it's like to just be a guessing game, with the dealer unwilling to budge. are you measuring your mpg by dividing miles driven by gallons pumped?
"Everything works fine and my mechanic said he couldn't see any other damage." Well obviously this is NOT the case. I hope it was cheap at least
It has only 56000 miles on it. Now that I'm driving to work, I'm getting around 45 mpg regularly. The energy flow still isn't displaying though.
