Hello, i have a 2004 prius that had a HV batyery problem. HV battery was rebuilt. After that car started ran but after shut down it will not start. It will only show red triangle, abs, vcs, yellow tire. Basically all yellow lights on dash board except check engine. Also on the MFD it shows the red car with exclamation symbol. I scanned it but shows no DTC codes. Any suggestions please Help. THANKS....
12v battery shows good. I did the check on the MFD and shows 12v and with car running shows obove 14v. One big thing that i noticed is that if i disconnect the neg of the battery and reconnect that clears all lights then car starts ok. But onece I shut it off then try to restart it it will not start. It just powers on MFD showing red car and red trianhle on dash. I would think thaf if 12v battery was bad car will never start even after disconnecting neg side of battery.
how long have you owned this car? there is definitely an electrical fault code, you just need a better code reader to retrieve it. You can use MiniVCI to retrieve the codes, it's about $25 on Amazon and requires a windows laptop. When you disconnect the 12v negative, it resets your car and you can restart. Once restarted, the fault is picked up, the car won't allow you to start again
Actually this is a friends car. I personally own a prius 05 mine is good so far. Back to my friends car. He has owned it for about 5 yrs. I do have a miniVCI. I will try it on my car first. It will be the first time I use. Hopefully it will tell me something about the codes. Thanks for responding by the way. Any ideas what codes do you think I will get.
I will read the code with the minivci. But as far as I know everything was hooked up. HV battery charges ok after disconnecting neg side of battery.
In READY mode, 14 V + actually indicates your 12 V battery is low. It will drop to 13.8 V once it is charged. However, having said that, as long as the voltage does not drop below 11 V on the start up cycle, your 12 V will not likely be the cause of your problem.
i like to check mine cold with a dvm. 12.5 or better is my happy range. just because the car starts, doesn't mean voltage fluctuations aren't causing weird things to happen.
Plug is inserted fine. It starts on 1st try but once i shut it down and try to restart then i get all the lights except check engine.
As previously suggested, you need to retrieve the DTC using Mini VCI. Your car may have a high voltage ground fault. The car will run fine, but will not restart after it is made IG-OFF because the ground fault presents a safety issue.
Wong, thanks for the info. This is my friends car. By any chance you think something was shorted or caused by replacing the HV battery. That was the last thing done to car. This is a rebuilt battery. Do you think maybe battery is bad. Again once dtc codes ressetted HV battery ischarging fine.
