Hi there. I'm back after a 6 year break. I wanted to share how I disabled the VPNS in my 2015 Prius v Five wagon with no tools. The VPNS is the external noise maker that squeals to warn pedestrians of an oncoming vehicle in case the engine is not running at low speeds. There are multiple threads discussing the legality and morality of doing this. I pay attention when driving and will pay extra attention when parking, backing up etc. now that the car makes less noise. Step one pop the hood and prop the hood. Step two stick your right arm into the square hole where the hood latch secures the hood. You will reach your right hand and arm toward the passenger side of the vehicle, as you are facing the front of the vehicle. You will reach until you grab the clip attached to the speaker with the arrows pointing to it in my pictures. Please note that my pictures are of the speaker with the clip removed. Step three reach with either your left hand or with a long screwdriver (I thought he said no tools required) through the front grille opening to depress the rectangle at the bottom of the clip that attaches the vertical wires to the speaker (the one with the arrows in the pictures). While you are depressing this bottom rectangle, pull the clip down with your right hand. My pictures are of the speaker AFTER the clip has been removed. I do not have a picture with the clip in. I'm not sure what other years this will work for. Maybe 2014 and up but my car is a 2015.
That emitter is inside the driver's side fender on any previous model. Most likely moved as a result of beefing up that area of the overlap crash test.
