I was the recipient of Wayne's 48th EBH install last weekend [thanks Wayne!] and I have been using it this week. One thing I have noticed is when I approach the car in the morning to unplug the EBH, it is making a slight ticking or clicking noise under the hood. This is not something I normally hear when the EBH is not plugged in. Just to confirm, this morning I didn't plug it in and waited several minutes but did not hear the noise. It occurs every 15-30 seconds. It might be random or at an interval, I am not certain. My question is, is this normal behavior for the EBH and it's operation? Or should I be concerned that the EBH is faulty? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
We haven't gotten our timer yet, nor another extension cord, so I haven't plugged mine in yet. So I have no experience in the noise you're hearing. I'm guessing that it sounds similar to an iron when plugged in. I know my iron clicks whenever the heating element goes on or off. It turns itself off so it doesn't overheat, obviously. Could that be it?
As far as I know, the EBH does not have a thermostat. It will burn itself out if not for the mass of the engine. It's possible you're hearing metal expansion/contraction in the engine block.
