Any ideas? I posted before on this issue and wanted to include a video I just made yesterday. Noise occurs @ 0:03, 0:12 & 0:42 Thx
Wow. Have not heard that before. Does not sound like a ping or knock, more like something is rattling. I would not think the engine load was high when the noise happened, the HSI was still in ECO. There is a clutch shock damper thing between the engine and the PSD, could it be slipping and causing a rattling sound? Pure speculation on my part...
I think it always happens at low speeds (up to 30-35mph) accelerating. I don't remember if it happens if I am accelerating from lets say 40 or 50mph. I did not notice it when I first got the car. I think it started happening after i had 2-3000 miles on the car. I have close to 6000 now.
I brought it to the dealer before I made the video. They said they test drove it and did not hear anything. I am going to call and ask if I can email them the video and take a look. Thought I would post on PriusChat first.
I'm interested in their response. I'm getting the same noise, only on highway when accelerating, when the battery is at the same level as in your video. I'm at 7000 km with the car. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger side, but can't really tell... Who knows, maybe this noise is normal?
I will let you know what they say. It isn't a normal sound on the car. My 2011 Prius never made this noise.
Annoying sound. Open the windows and see where its coming from. Front or back or in the cabin? Engine or suspension? To figure that out gun it alittle when you hear that noise and see if the speed of the rattle tracks engine rpm. See if it speeds up with engine rpm. If it does not track engine its running suspension. If running suspension see if it goes away when you tap the brakes. Maybe brake related. Sounds alittle like brake pad squeek. Dealer will be little help. You will have to almost find this yourself. Good Luck!
That chirping sound might be knocking. I am repeating my earlier post, but put Premium in there, and if you still get the noise, I do not think it is knocking.
Thanks. It is hard to decide what to do. I hear conflicting opinions on a few different posts. Don't use higher octane, only 87...Try higher octane or add fuel additive/cleaner. I believe the manual says to use 87, whether that matters or not. I'll have to double check.
that sound doesn't sound normal to me, definitely a problem, hope the dealership can fix this problem good luck !
Dont hear anything? But i am on phone Maybe your battery fan? -Htc Tapatalk ( sorry for auto spell correct )
Did you ever figure this out? My 2010 does this with 9k miles on it. Mine does this at highway speeds and only under slight throttle. It sounds just like spark knock. It does it a lot with 87 octane and slightly with 93 octane. I think that they "Toyota" are trying to get all of the power from every drop of fuel, that they have the timing cranked up so far on the engine that it induces detonation.
