Plug-In NC is a nonprofit promoter of electric transportation in North Carolina. They are trying to get 500 car owners to show support for a new specialty license plate for electric cars. Its title would say "Electric Vehicle" with a graphic showing a lightning bolt on symbol of a car. If approved, the plate would add $10/year in cost. Illinois has a similar plate. It was dirt cheap at first ($25/yr ??). Now it's $400 on a new car and $250/yr there after.
Does the money go to a special interest group or something? Is it that high for all novelty plates or just for the EV plates?
Transportation infrastructure improvements. pretty much in line with other vanity plates. PHEV owners never got the lower price as it was limited to BEV only. Fee Hike a Pain for Electric Car Owners – NBC Chicago
