Actually, I got the iPhone, IR camera attachment ($200 eBay,) to align my tires. The gold standard for tires is a temperature profile after driving 10 miles at high speed. It the alignment is off you can see the hot treads from bad toe or camber. Lift the car and adjust toe and camber as needed and retest.

Once all the tires are neutral or at least have balanced temperature profiles, you'll get maximum tire life which pays for the IR attachment. You'll also get a neutral handling (or biased to your taste) which further improves driving. For example, locals who may want to drive 500 miles in a left turn.

Last but not least, I'll be able to identify air leaks around the house and do cost effective maintenance. No need for a $2,000 window if $0.20 duct tape will do the job. But things like door seals are a wear item and fixing them is a cheap way to reduce heating and air conditioning expense.

Spooky stuff. Especially temperature swings in nostrils.

In one of the world's astrological systems this is the year of the snake. So Bob gets super snake vision.

Thin clothes are transparent to infrared. In the sense of being in thermal equilibrium.

This is fabulously better than the point and shoot thermal detectors previously used to snoop tire temperatures. Tape your leaking windows, sure. But a world of fascinating time wasting opens.

As ideas dribble into my head, they may dribble out here.

Nice sunny day, and the rooftop PVs are lit. Somehow disconnect a section from power flow. Does it get hotter? How much? Thermodynamics says it should, but does anyone know how much?

Cruise Huntsville by night to find illegal cannabis 'grows'. Or somebody's electrical junction box fixin' to go melty.

Go the the zoo! I have come to not enjoy zoos as prisons for innocent animals. But what do animals look like? There is a new snake to go and have a look.

Casinos in the US definitely use thermal cameras in their security systems. Anyone who starts winning lots of money from the casino is closely monitored so they can find a way to justify kicking them out in a way that is acceptable to the gaming commission.
