Hello all, Just trying to look for some answers, I owned a 2011 prius, changed oil myself, did a lot of miles for work which I thought may be a good thing, car started to studder, misfire it seemed, I thought maybe should go through, changed plugs, fluids etc. Check engine light came back on and the misfiring began again. Brought to reputable garage family friend who said, engine going, antifreeze he seen in the exhaust pipe. Car only had 160K and it's a Toyota. Thank the Lord that I was finished paying it, I am in a 2017 but afraid same thing will happen, I thought Toyotas will last if taken care of.
Yet another head gasket failure at approaching 200k miles story to throw on the pile... I'm with you in hoping it's remedied for Gen 4. Now what we need is some data as to why this is a thing. I'm going to do preemptive water pump/t-stat replacement on mine at 150k miles in an effort to dodge this bullet. Maybe I should consider moving this up to this spring...
it's a pretty unusual story, but if you're on the wrong end, i understand your frustration. stiil, these cars are only built for 180k, so if you're expecting 200+ without major issues, you might be disappointed. it's not your basic camry engine that might run forever.
