I have just bought a used prius 2001 with a japanese handbook. I have found my way way round most of the dash board by trial and error but am stuck on the gear lever PRND and B. What does the B stand for?

You might want to use the search feature on 'B gear' (obviously you can't search on just 'B'). Check out this thread for instance: http://priuschat.com/index.php?showtopic=24650&hl=B+gear Very briefly, it's the engine-brake feature, instead of using a lower gear for descending steep hills so you don't wear out the brakes. But it doesn't help you regenerate power for the batteries, so it's not recommended for most situations, despite some early misguided advice to the contrary. Edit: Hey - this is my 500th post! Now I'll be recognized everywhere I go!
