Odd behavior Now I have only had my Prius four days (120 miles) and I haven’t even go through the entire manual yet, but this was a little odd. I drove out of the garage this morning in “EV” mode so not to wake the family. I placed it back into default mode and drove through the subdivision. Once on the highway, I set the CC and put it into “ECO” mode till I got into town (18 miles). Then I put it into default mode. Now I didn’t have the display in the mode where you can see the car diagram so I couldn’t be certain but it did seem that the engine was NOT coming on. After a few miles to get to the building (slow driving), my battery indicator drop to just two bars… something I haven’t seen before. I parked and went to work. Just now I went out at lunch and pressed the on button. A few seconds later the engine did start up for a minute or two and shutdown. The display indicated the battery was getting recharged. The battery is still at two bars. Does this seem odd? Peter
Sounds like normal behavior. I don't have a 2010, but my 2004 did things like that all the time. You just get used to it
Hope so... I would hate the thing just shutoff in mid-traffic and die in firey cash. Oh wait, that was another post about running out of gas.
Totally normal. No worries. The ECU logic controls when to run the ICE. You can only request it to be off with actions like EV button and light throttle/low speed. Low state of charge will bring on the ICE every time.
Sorry, my initial message was misleading and I have since edit it. I meant to say the during my drive to the building, it seemed that the engine did NOT come on and thus the charged dropped to two bars. It has stayed up almost to the top (one bar less) since I drove it off the lot. That is what seems odd to me. Peter
Still fine. It should kick on when you restart. On the highway it will target a higher level, but I think the '10 is much more willing to allow EV at lower speeds (ie, down to a lower SOC before ICE-on).
Mine gets to 2 bars all the time. I am always trying to drive as far as possible on electric and thus bring the battery to 2 bars. Perfectly normal. On the other hand, I almost never get my charge all the way up.
