I don't put a lot of miles on my cars. I'm selling my 1994 Honda Civic right now at it's got 61,200 miles on it. With the Honda, I changed the oil every six months, as opposed to waiting until I hit the 5,000 mile mark. Everyone only talks about "every 5,000 miles" instead of time period. Is six months okay for the Prius...more often? .... less often ....wait for 5,000 miles?
I think that if you look in the manual that came with the car, it states every 6 months or 5000 miles, whichever comes first. I would hazard that most of our members rack up more than 5000 miles in a 6 month period (I normally will put on 5000 miles in about 3.5 months). Thanks, Shawn
From what i hear, it doesn't matter. The only issue you'll have is with your warranty. But.... when i talked to a toyota/lexus tech before they both said that a few extra thousand miles will not matter .past the 5k with my prius and parents lexus while in colorado. They said it deoesn't matter, just drive it back to california and get the changes done there if you don't have enought time here. *shrug*
The maintenance book says 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Most ppl here say 5k miles because they drive more than 5k miles in 6 months (I assume).
I drive our gasoline car (currently the Prius) less than 4k miles/year. I change my oil once a year. For the EVs that see abougt 12k miles/year... I NEVER change the oil.
To keep your warranty, every 6 months or 5,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Odd how the Prius in the EU are every 12 months or 10,000 miles.
