We just traded in our 2005 Prius on a new 2010. One of the things that surprised me is that they do not want to do the first oil change until 10K miles. Any thoughts on this? I realize they are now using synthetic oil, but 10K for the very first oil change that covers the break in period seems like a lot? Gary
i changed mine out at 3200 just because i believe that first oil gets dirty. the oil was not that dirty to my surprise. i will change again at 10K (so about 7000 on this oil) and send in a sample and see what they say.
Welcome! There have been extensive discussions on oil changes on this forum. Start reading http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-care-maintenance-troubleshooting/67747-oil-change-2010-prius-do-yourself.html and search for others. I changed at 1400, 5000, 10,000 and sampled at 15k miles. I've posted my used oil analyses as pictures in my album.
I wouldn't really want to wait the full 10k the first time, but hey it is what the manual says. I did 5k fwiw.
