Installing an engine block heater last night we noticed a small oil leak from a black plastic cap on the bottom of the engine, passenger side, near the oil pan... my brother though it might be a cartridge type oil filter. It looks like oil is dripping from there. not much but with a new car a single drop is one too much IMO. So... knowing nothing yet (it only has 300 miles) is that the oil filter and is this a minor problem or would it need an oil change to re-seat the gasket...? Seems like an odd place to put the oil filter to me having to remove that plastic shield with 2 dozen plastic clips every time.
Sounds like the filter cap all right. Yours may just be loose but I agree with Spiderman, let the dealer fix it. FYI it uses an O ring type gasket that is supplied with the filter.
