    Interested to see this make actual news outlets. Usually they bypass anything slightly techy or sciency. But as usual they have to put the death spiral on it to make people interested in reading it...

    The only people that might have some issues are in East Asia since they will be awake when the leap second is added, meaning that for a small amount of time things will be unsync'd. Been here, done this. :)

    Were you not awake when it happened at 5 pm Pacific / 6 pm Mountain / 8 pm Eastern Daylight Time?

    This event happened during the hottest part of my afternoon, while I was out on a very long bicycle ride on this 'coolest' day of the current heat wave. My bicycle doesn't care about these UTC leap seconds. My CDMA phone, and the GPS unit within it, use more application-appropriate time scales that don't have leap seconds, and displayed no apparent confusion.

    I spent my extra second playing with my granddaughter. :)

    Not a bad way at all to spent that time.

    The free second threw off my internal clock, and I stayed up an hour an a half past my bed time.
