Looks like an ad for extended warranties.... but check for exclusions!

Hence the trend to fixed sunroofs.

'caused by an external factor'. are they suggesting a tree fell on it and left no evidence?
sounds to me like toyota doesn't want to admit that they screw up occasionally

That's one reason a car with a sunroof is a deal breaker for me.

Hence, the trend for avoiding sunroofs. Tesla Model S did away with it the year after we got one in 2017. It's an expense looking for a place to happen. The better ½ wanted one available at the dealership when we purchased in 2018 in her Pacifica minivan. I won that battle, one of the few. The point being as few a times as many people open them up, what's the point? Other than to enrich the Stealerships' service centers once they go south.

Friend's 2005 had the plastic tracks of the sunroof break, they weren't available separately. So sunroof kept shut.

I totally agree. Sometimes though, you're kind of 'forced' to get a sunroof because you want leather, a premium sound system or whatever. I find they usually take up headroom, though my MINI did not.

that's exactly right. toyota forced the sunroof on us in 3 hycams to get other things we wanted.
some mfg's have it as a separate option. we never opened any of them over 18 years

I loved the giant panoramic sunroof in my old Subaru, opened it a lot in spring and fall.

I keep forgetting that my Mazda even has one- it's the old classic size.

The inexplicable thing is - if you ask AI how much these sunroofs cost to repair, the highest in is typically under $1,000.
Sounds more like a decimal point mislocation

There are lots of aftermarket companies that will sell you a service contract / extended warranty - sight unseen. Why not spend $2,000 for that warranty, then pay the additional $100 or so deductible & call it a day.
Alternatively? You can buy another 5-year-old Camry, with sunroof, for less than the cost that the rip off service center wants.

Then sell your stinker camry, giving notice about the dead sunroof. You still come out ahead!

The moonroof worked fine in my Gen 3 all the way up til I sold it. I used it regularly and at my old place, it had a steep ramp out of the parkade so the body was twisted every time I entered and exited. It held up well. (few squeaks if I do the ol' multi-storey parkade ramps but otherwise it was sold). I'm hoping the one in my EV6 holds up as well (I've been positioning the car to try and go up/down the ramp as straight as possible rather than twisting the body as I make the turn at the top of the ramp to try and minimise flexing the body).

I'm pretty sure the 22K was to cut the roof off and replace it. IMHO; that guy should get a second opinion or get his insurance to pay for it.
