While I was doing a search I found that the overhead light turn on when in proximity to the car, but I think this was on a Gen II forum. I have a 2010 Prius Package 3. Last week I left for work very early and noticed the light was on as I walked out to go to the car. I thought I must have hit a button until I looked out the window of my apartment last night and it seemed like it was on again -- can't be definite though because my eyes could be playing tricks on me. My switch is in the center, which is door activated. My car started fine after doing a 24 hour call, but it makes me a little nervous to think I may be draining the battery. When I switched it to off position, the same light was on. Basically it's the left half of the light. The right half shuts off when I close the door. Anyone else noticed this? Do I need to find a dealer to look at this? I moved to Memphis, TN (Mud Island) recently from NJ. So I don't know the closest dealer with a repair shop. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated.
Press the light itself to click off that map light, seems to me. EDIT: Yes, just confirmed it by recreating what you describe by pressing on each light, which also toggles them on or off (depending on how the slider switch is set).
You can confirm this for yourself by opening and closing the door, but remaining inside. (or simply touching the light cover in AM to see if it is warmer than the other side). What I think is that someone simply clicked on the one side light, which you many not notice when the interior lights are on, but as soon as they go off, you will see it. Just click it up again, and it will turn off.
If all else fails, just name your Prius Tom Bodett, 'cause it'll leave a light on for you. [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motel_6]Motel 6 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]
You guys were right. I got a chance to go out. It shut off when I pressed on it. I don't when I turned it on -- must have been by accident. When I initially saw it on that first early morning I was thinking it was the light that is supposed to shine over the gear shift when the lights are on. Now I looked more closely and see that light is much smaller/less bright. Thank you very much. Your replies relieved some of the stress on my mind.
