I am the 3rd owner of a 2008 Prius. The original inverter pump recall happened at about 43,000 miles, with the 1rst owner. I'm now at 170K, and P0A93 popped-up 5 minutes after the A/C stopped blowing cold air. I stop the car, reset the codes, and restarted. AC is blowing again, but I don't see any swirling in the reservoir. At 120K+, the updated Inverter pump is history. Is this Inverter a DIY project? Special tools? Thank you.
I actually saw the failure before the car began failing. I stopped at the gas station and saw pink fluid right behind the driver's front tire. When I looked in the reservoir, it was full. After refueling I drove the car for another half hour before the air conditioning stopped. Looking up the code, the P0A93 indicated Inverter pump, but yet the reservoir is full. I'm a little confused as to how there was a puddle of pink fluid underneath the pump and yet the reservoir still shows full. Does the inverter pump contain a one-way valve?
The engine coolant is the same color. You may have a bad engine water pump very very common. Disregard the overflow. Take the plastic cover over the radiator off. Underneath that is the radiator cap on the left.On a cool car open the cap and make sure the coolant is the top of the neck. If its low you probably have a bad engine water pump too. Get a flashlight and look at the front of the engine make sure the water pump belt is there then look closely in that whole area for green or red specks which is the water pump weep hole is losing fluid which means the water pump bearing is blown..
