2007 Prius, 236000 miles We had to replace the main water pump a few months ago and then a shortly after we got the lights of death and needed to replace the inverter water pump. Now we keep getting the P1116 code. I’ve replaced the coolant storage tank sensor, code came back I’ve replace the 3 way control valve, code came back Any suggestions on what next?
Replace things only if they are proven faulty as you follow the troubleshooting steps for the code. Saves money, time, and frustration.
Trying to diagnose problems with the coolant heat storage (CHS) system really requires a copy of the service manual, and having Techstream scantool software (and a mini VCI cable to connect to the car). The code indicates that the ECM doesn't see the temperature reading at the CHS sensor change when it expects it to. So, some possible causes are; a clog in the system, the 3-way valve doesn't work right (or has the hoses switched around), the electric CHS pump doesn't work, or a problem with the sensor or the wiring. If you have Techstream, then you can look at the temperature sensor data, then turn the pump on and watch for changes. BTW, do you hear the coolant pump run for a few second when you: first turn the car on and then after you turn it off? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
