parking gear not engaging

    vehicle - toyota aqua 2012
    shift lever can move to the P position. however, P gear not engaging. as a result, car unable to switch on the engine. no any fault codes. once the shift lever moved to the P position, i was able to switch off the vehicle last time(however P gear not engaged) please advise

    have you load tested the 12 volt battery? the pawl runs on an electric motor

    thanks for helping. it was faulty gear shift control cable. replaced it and now working properly
