I've attached a special investigation report of a run-away Prius. A non-fatal accident, it has parallels to the Saylor fatal accident. 2005 Toyota Prius Sudden Acceleration Investigation (DS07010) | The Center for Autosafety Bob Wilson
Another freeway incident where it's really hard to understand how just a stuck accelerator (floor-mat) could cause so much trouble without a fairly large dose of driver incompetence as well. Read the section titled "Pre Crash" (see attachment). Does anyone else get the feeling that this guy didn't really try all that hard to stop the car when it first happened and probably just decided "oh well, I might as well just ride the brake all the way home".
In every discussion of Unintended Acceleration, I make the claim your brakes have the ability to overpower your engine to a full stop ONCE, but that only trying to slow the car, rather than stop the car, is a recipe for disaster. That thumbnail sure sounds familiar.
