Today I was parking my car at Home Depot and was waiting to drive into a space next to a guy who I thought was getting out of his car. But he continued to sit there, all the while looking at me. So I drove into the space and got out. He said, "Is that the solar roof??" I said yes it is, and and he was, like, really?? He went on to explain that his wife wanted to trade in her Gen II Prius for a new one with a solar roof but they told them it wasn't available. I asked which dealer, and he told me Fitzgerald. This is the same one that told me, a week or so before I got my IV with solar roof, that the solar roof isn't even being manufactured and won't be available for at least 5 months. I had told them it certainly is available. I guess they haven't caught on. Well finally someone noticed my new car!! (I like my winter grey, but hardly anyone seems to take notice. Unlike the blue ribbon or blizzard pearl, it is not a head turner.)
Someone in the newbie forum posted about how they were told there is a manufacturers defect with the solar roods and they are not making them now. I wonder if these dealers get smaller allocations that makes it harder for them to obtain the solar package. So they make up lies to sell what they can get easier. I haven't had many comments on my car yet. one neighbor asked me how much it costs to fill it up.
Well the straight skinny is that they ARE available....there's just not that many available in the northern half of NA. Maybe a store will get one out of ten with with SR package. Some smaller stores may never see one. Thus for them...'they're not available'. Fitzgerald is pretty large but still they only get one out of ten or twelve and sometimes they get zero in an allocation. We're in the same boat.
