I've been reading through the Display Audio w/ Nav manual and I must say it sounds impressive. Those with iPhone/iPods will love the simple, built in plug and play connectivity, on screen control, and voice command. You can even "tag" a song on the radio and when you plug in your iPod the tagged song data will be downloaded and next time you're on iTunes it will give you the change to buy the tagged song. The Navigation system features seem pretty nice too. More intuitive to operate and search nearby POI's than in the past. Most all the weird quirkiness of the Gen2 system (which I despise) seems to have been eliminated. Features include Traffic, Turns indicators, Lane guidance and Sign posts. All good Except for Toyota insistence to not give us full functionality while moving. Just let me sign a waiver, jeeez. The voice command system seems much improved also. Commands can be given without having to be in a particular screen. No more redundant questions/confirmations. Just say what you want in somewhat of a full sentence and it does it all, instead of piece by piece commands. I think, but am not sure, you may be able to speak POI "brand" (Wal-mart, McDondalds, etc) to the Nav system. Display Audio appears to eventually be what the standard audio/info system in all Toyotas The Premium Audio system is even better.
Where did you find the manual? I've a PiP on order with the Advanced package and would like to read up on the features... Thanks and regards, Peter
I was readying the Prius V manual which shares the PiPrius "Display Audio w/ Nav unit. You can get basic info here Display Audio With Navigation and Entune And the manual (broken down) here: Select Navigation Manuals and then the ones that say "W/nav" I don;t know that Premium HDD audio is covered though Toyota Online Owners Manuals and Service Manuals
One thing worth noting with these new systems, The iPhone will deliver it's ipod music library via USB cable and phone via Bluetooth. Makes sense because it will serve triple duty as your Entune data connection, your phone and your music library. The Premium HDD audio is a little different in that Traffic and Weather app data comes from SiriusXM. Which sux because that forces you to carry that service after the trial period to continue to have those functionalities on the nav unit. Not so with Std. system. Drop SiriuXM and you still have traffic and weather through Entune. With Premium HDD unit You're actually using TWO pay services for a trial period when you get the car. Money, Money. get you hooked and take your money. But SiriusXM is entertainment only in the basic system.
Doesn't look like they have the Premium HDD stuff up yet even though the Prius V has that option available. I'll check back periodically. Can you point out which document states that the iPhone will only deliver music via USB and not Bluetooth (BT)? That would be a tragic loss for me as I use BT for streaming MOG, Spotify, and other streaming services. These prove problematic when using the iPhone attached via USB as the Toyota seems to expect iPod music functionality. It seems Toyota has two traffic info partners: SiriusXM Data and INRIX. The regular radio uses INRIX (an Entune partner). I wonder if Toyota will allow a switch to Entune Traffic for those users desiring to switch. I would assume that Toyota would want to get some revenue from customers that have no interest in SiriusXM but do want traffic info. That would encourage Entune subscriptions. Of interest is this article about the 2012 Camry where Toyota and SiriusXM are including SiriusXM Data services for 3 Years instead of a 3 month trial. Perhaps the PiP will get the same? Toyota To Offer Sirius XM Services For 3 Years On Entune Equipped Camry’s - SiriusBuzz I've used the traffic stuff from SiriusXM for a while but found it less than helpful so it is not a great loss if I do not get it. Regards, Peter
Yeah, more specifically it's the whole itune library and data link that must be accessed thru USB. The Android and BB use Bluetooth for data. And it says that can effect performance if doing both via BT Music files can be streamed via BT with the iPhone Per Toyota: Android™ and Blackberry® wirelessly connect your phone to the available Entune™-equipped Toyota using Bluetooth® [3]. The iPhone is connected via a USB data cable. Click the link below to see if your phone is compatible.
The sales manager who helped me finalize my pre-order told me that my iPhone will be able to wirelessly connect with the advanced package but not with the standard package on the plug in prius.
I thought that was the case too, but if you look under the features list on the toyota page, under the display audio with navigation under the base model it lists this as the last feature "and music streaming via Bluetooth® [11] wireless technology"
Both packages can wirelessly connect inside the car. Only the advanced package can communicate/get data from the car (wirelessly) when you are away from the car.
Ok that makes more sense. However since it says they both have remote air conditioning. Is the only thing you get on the advanced is the remote check of the battery charge status?
No, with the Advanced you can see where you parked the car or where the car is on a map in real time, you can set the timer for the charger, turn the a/c on/off, check battery level and some other things.
I'm sad I can only afford the standard trim. (but I hope you enjoy the advanced trim) EDIT: [I just remembered: I hate the feel of leather...phew! Now I feel a little better about the standard trim. ]
