I'll try to post a picture a day, but no promises, because accessing PC from the slow internet here is painfully slow and frustrating.
No, I think Daniel said he was in the Selkirks, which are several ranges inland. West Coast trees tend to have long tendrils of moss hanging from the branches, and these look relatively bare. Nice trail, Daniel. Do we get to see the view at the end tomorrow?
This is indeed the Selkirks, near Lake Kootenay, more or less straight north of Spokane. The lake, viewed from Pilot Point Provincial Park:
Kootenay lake is a lovely spot, and the largest natural lake in BC. Nearby Nelson is where Roxanne was filmed, and there's a local broommaker that reportedly made some of the brooms for the Harry Potter series. If you feel like a drive and a relatively short hike, Daniel, there are some spectacular views from Idaho Peak. Sorry, I'll stop playing tour guide if you prefer.
nice... daniel, you picked a good time to leave town. it was in the 100's will be going on 3 days in a row tomorrow
me??... nah... no way, not even close... i have a window AC in the bedroom, so i can sleep no matter how hot it is...right now at 10:30 at night, its 78 downstairs, about 87 upstairs, but bedroom will be around 70. i be just fine besides, 90 is an anomaly around here. tomorrow it will be in the low 80's which is basically normal and very tolerable
Idaho Peak lookout is a fabulous hike, with spectacular wildflowers in season. This is still too early though. Lots of snow up that high. Yes, that place claims to have made the Harry Potter brooms. I have zero interest.
Yesterday, at the end of the trail we came up to a big pile of rocks. The guide went over them to see if the trail continued on the other side, leaving me with nothing to do for several minutes but take silly pictures.
It's kind of a devil's bargain, because the thing is that, at least in the Selkirks, where I was this past week, so many of the best trails are accessible only by logging roads. BTW, I love your sig. (Ceiling cat.)
I hope Daniel hasn't been captured by the locals... Here's a picture of a hike in the area, though it's probably still snowbound at this time of year. That last stretch could be a little slippy.
No kidding now it's 5 days and counting come on Daniel! Any reports of fires, earthquakes, bad storms or bear attacks in the area? Wildkow
