I am looking to replace the grey cloth interior with Katzkin and wondered if anyone else has done this or is planning to do so. I am curious to learn what others may have done for choices (perf, 2 tone, stitching, premium leather)- especially anyone who has Clearwater Blue like what we have ordered. If you have pictures, that would be awesome. Thanks!!!
I'm 95% sure the leather interior I/we (there are others here) had installed at Carson Toyota is Katskinz. I went with a 2-tone scheme with perforated leather (thanks, Dianne!). The darker sections are Dark Charcoal and the lighter section is Gray I think:
Hey this looks really nice. I am surprised you got a perforated gray color, because on the booklet they showed me, there were no gray colors. How much did you spend on this? And did they come out to your place and did it for you, or was it done when you picked it up? I was charged $1.6K for two tone perforated katzskin. I am now a little annoyed to learn that other people are paying $1.2K for this. Thanks,
I had mine done through Dianne at Carson as well, and the company they use picked up the door panels, seats, etc and took them to their shop. When they finished, they returned and reinstalled everything. I don't think they used Katskins, as that wasn't mentioned, plus I think Katskins are priced higher from what I have seen. I chose plain rather than perforated. The whole job was finished prior to delivery, and is backed by the dealer. I also had them install the Homelink mirror similar to what comes in the Advanced Trim PiP.
cost to dealers for Katskin installed is usually around $900.. You could also just take it to someone who installs leather, and it should be around 1k.
Katzkin's website lists Prius interiors for 2011 (2012 not listed yet) starting at $1995. They suggest using one of there authorized dealers for purchase (won't sell online) but there is no mention that I could find of installation costs on top of the listed price. If they do wholesale to dealers for $900, as mentioned above, then I guess we all did get a pretty good deal.
Lurk, I haven't done this myself on the Prius, but I think upholsters use a flat tool with a slot in it that fits between the panel and the metal of the door frame to pop out the plastic fasteners which are placed a few inches apart around the edge. I haven't tinkered with a console lid, my cars didn't have them back in the days when I was a DIY messing around with cars. The door panel fasteners are probably similar to the ones under the hood that hold covers, etc., but without the little collar.
