Global Sales In January 2019: Over 150,000 At 1.9% Market Share This is truely impressive and much faster than hybrids grew. Think of this as 2006 in terms of hybrids - when only toyota, honda, and ford were selling volume. Part of it is the US, China, and Japan have all incubated the technology while in hybrids it was mainly Japan with lukewarm response of the US. In 2006 the gen II prius sold 185,600 units world wide which was over 4x what the gen I and II sold in 2003. The top 10 includes sales from 3 chinese companies BYD, SAIC, and Chery. Renault/Nissan/Mitsubishi has one from each of its companies the leaf, outlander phev, and zoe. Tesla model 3 fell to number 4 from number 1, but most of that had to do with cars in transit, I expect it will be number 1 again in march as these reach customers for the quarterly numbers. I don't buy the idea that phevs are far behind bevs, it is just the designs for bevs are better this year. I expect a big growth for phevs in the next decade.
A little too obscure for me: "Air Bud" the dog (or puppies) took a profit by attacking gassers running down the street? "Budweiser" the beer beat a profit by gas prices and poor MPG? "Bud" took a profit beating on their customer MPG gassers? "Bud" customers suffer from flatulence that suppresses sales? Perhaps a URL to the source? Bob Wilson
I'm guessing you mean this? Slowing demand for fossil-fuel cars is hurting EV giant BYD — Quartz Yes competition and shrinking market is causing lower profitability of gasoline cars in China. I expect the same to happen in the US in the next decade as phevs and bevs become more desired. Ford and GM are both cutting employment for R&D and manufacturing for their gasoline cars, and plowing money into SUVs, Trucks, and plug-ins.
