I recently moved and was shocked by a comment made by the seller's realtor. As we were finalizing everything at the house, she says, "oh, it has an outdoor plug for your car." I said, "What?" She then proceeded to walk outside and point to the outside electrical outlet and then to my Prius sitting in the driveway. I was lost for a second and then it dawned on me what she meant. After a quick explanation, everyone was amazed at the gas mileage and that I didn't pay a premium. And I had a good laugh. (I've had my car since August 2005 and never encountered this question/comment.) Goes to show what the "general public's" views are about the Prius. At least in my experience.
Huh. The first Prius I ever rode in was with a realtor (back in 2001). I have since learned they're a pretty popular car with realtors, so your post is particularly amusing.
Is that thing motorized? If so I'd love one - when some jerkwad tailgater gets too close, I can punch a button and Wham! that thing drops down and pits his hood like a rattlesnake attack.

In North Dakota, where I lived for several decades, everyone plugs in their car. The older cars won't even start in winter otherwise. Newer cars will start, but it's easier on the car if you plug it in. The Prius, with its unique starting system, is probably the first car in North Dakota that does not need to be plugged in!
"Goes to show what the "general public's" views are about the Prius. At least in my experience." Toyota and the PHEV crowd (including myself) should be happy. One of the reasons Toyota has given for not developing a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), is they spent $millions on advertising to convince the public that a Prius doesn’t have to be plugged in. I’ve occasionally gotten that response myself, although, not recently. Frankly, I can’t wait to plug it in!
