Sure - Porsche did a incredibly amazing thing - not unlike VW's EV racer - recently setting the all time best time at Nurburgring. And noe the company's EV Tycan ran a (4-door sedan class) record breaking 7:44. Hats off to Porsche! The thing is - that's not the record of interest.... Tesla 'Plaid' Model S crushes Porsche Taycan's Nürburgring time, witness says - Electrek The record (imo) is how QUICKLY the record got CRUSHED by the next gen Model S ... with "Plad" mode - orders will be accepted late 2020. 20 seconds (or thereabouts) was unofficial ... so the crushing may have been less ...... only 15-18 seconds crushed. The next gen S (3 Motors) ..... likely not for average person's wallet - but it was an old Chevy philosophy ... (somethin like) win on Sunday, means sales on Monday. The story is being carried elsewhere - notably in Germany; Tesla Model S beats Porsche Taycan's Nurburgring lap by ~20 secs: German auto mag .... add here - one journalists notes; Tesla Model S 'Plaid' Crushes Porsche Taycan's Nürburgring Record Musk - guy knows how to advertise .... get others to do it for you, for free. .
While the production version may still beat the Taycan, it’s not 20 seconds. Cause that Model S was stripped out.
Sooo .... minus the front & back seats, alacantra headliner, carpet, dash, airbags, door padding & electric window mechanism 200lbs? ..... about what a (likely} welded in roll cage weighs? Probaby saved at LEAST 5 seconds ..... and at those speeds? that's probably a mere 350-400 car lengths. Killjoy
