I got this off Louisaudette from ToyotaNation who said he got it off his dealer. "The mpg calculator for the 2005 Prius got input from measuring the angle of depression of the accelerator pedal. That has been changed. The 2007 uses a measurement of air volume taken into the engine, as a more accurate indicator of engine load and consumption. According to my dealer, 2007s tend to have a more consistent agreement between displayed mpg on the screen and mpg calculated at the pump, and the reported mpg performance is about 5% lower than that shown on the 2005s." Can Galaxee or Rick57 confirm this? If so, this might be an answer to those who traded their 04/05 model for an 06+ model and wondered why their mpg is so different.
