Hi everyone, My daughter was driving her 2010 Prius this morning on the freeway when she noticed smoke, and lost power in the vehicle. She pulled over and saw a puddle of oil leaking from passenger side. We called tow truck and when he got there and lifted the car, more fluids came out, oil and coolant. He said that the car was done. Is this true? Does it sound like the engine needs replaced? What does something like that cost?
First thing to understand: A Prius has a standard 4-cylinder engine just like other cars. All the hybrid magic happens with the transmission. It's not too expensive to pull an engine from a wrecked Prius and replace the engine you have, if your engine is truly blown.
Happened to me but after another engine it's all good, just check your oil every week to prevent it from happening again.
It does sound more like the engine than a motor. Junk yards and ebay are sources of engines. 1.8 prius engine in Complete Engines | eBay
