So about a month ago I got into an accident and my front end crushed. I had to replace the bumper, hood, and an hood latch/internal support beam. Fortunately my family friend who we get most of our repair work done from (he is Toyota certified along with many other Asian brands) was able to piece my car back together. The car now looks fine other than the fact that the hood isn't fitting 100% at the front left corner. Also the pieces he replaced them with are plain pieces already primed so I need them painted. Because it is my fathers car he will want to repair it 100% but since I drive it he isn't too concerned with the appearances while I drive it around. I think he's looking at getting a professional paint job done for it but to save him some money, should he go for a Maaco paintjob (the reviews I've read are mixed, but from what I understand they don't last) or a professional one? Also should he just get the two parts painted or the whole car? I included some pictures on what you all think and if any one else had problems with the hood and found a way to fix it easily I'd love to hear! We think there was some slight bending in the frame but it drives great so far! Let me know any details you guys can think of and thanks for all the help!!
I understand that primer doesn't last that long so….. find a good body shop and have the primed parts painted, since the frame is bent. Then drive it till it dies……
Regarding the replacement hood, was that a Toyota part (which is aluminum) or aftermarket (which is steel)? I understand that the aftermarket part does not fit very well. Regarding the painting, you can try having the hood and front bumper painted, and see how well it matches the rest of the car.
I believe it was aftermarket if I am remembering correctly. And that's a great idea to check and see the two parts being painted first! Thanks!
