Because spam robots always give up before the 5th post, and we really don't like spam bots cluttering up the forums. It's a minor drag to have to make 5 separate inconsequential posts before gaining privileges but it is worth it.
Do replies like this count toward the five or do we actually have to do 5 new threads? How long does mod approval take?
