I'll clarify with a new post. I assume that the drivers airbag is under the front cover on the wheel. The pressure required to sound the horn is too great and it ends up blasting. I prefer tapping the horn when using it as a signal or to get someones attention. Years ago horns all had a horn ring which was adjustable and one could make it quite sensitive. I have not tried to adjust any since the horn ring went out of style. Too bad as you always knew where the horn was. NOW: Does anybody know if the pressure required to sound the horn is adjustable?
Try tapping the bottom of the steering wheel airbag cover. That might be able to get you a shorter "beep" rather than the horn
Can't say I've thought about it or played with it. Personally, I don't want to sit in my driveway honking my horn for no apperant reason annoying my neighbors. They would think I'm either going crazy or just trying to tick them off. And I'm not going to sit in the garage and honk the horn over and over. Then again, I do have ear plugs. . . I always figured that the horn was either ON or OFF with a set volume and tone.
true. but e.g. on the Camry, you can press one side of it lightly to get a shorter horn rather than the full blast
