I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on 2012 Prius II. Our dealer is advertising IIs at 22,495 + TTL, which seems like a fairly good deal, but I've seen better. Can I expect to whittle them down any more? I've never paid asking price for a car before, but $22,495 seems reasonable compared to what I've seen over the past few weeks and I'm worried that rising gas prices in California may keep the dealer inflexible. (We recently had a refinery explosion and I believe our summer gas formula is about to change back next month to the usual formula.)
I would say that is a "fair" price. I just bought one for about the same as you were quoted in the Midwest. Based on my research over the past several weeks, a Prius 2 between $22 and $28K is a good deal. It's about $1,000 or more less than most dealers are willing to sell. You may be able to find better prices as AsianStyles says, especially if you are on the west coast and willing to travel. If you have to travel, you may need to figure in airfare, gas and time into the cost (plus a degree of uncertainty). There were a string of crazy excellent deals the end of last month down to $21,000. I was trying to get closer to $21-$22K, but dealers weren't budging enough despite inventory. I got tired of playing and decided to jump on the deal. There is also a $250 "search is on rebate" offered directly through Toyota
