Ok, the first time I was in San Rafael a couple weeks ago I saw a ton of Prii. I was all over the Bay today from San Jose, through SF and up to San Rafael and my god everywhere I looked there was a Prius! The sad part is I was in my loud, obnoxious supercharged 4x4 truck so I looked like a jerk to them no doubt. Is it like this in SoCal too? I can't imagine seeing this many in other states since Ca. is the tree-hugger capital lol
Well, I don't know about a lot. But I see them every time I go out. I wish I had my camera when I went to Barnes and Noble the other day. I parked in an empty spot in front of the store (very rare) and when I came out lo and behold the car on my right had left and there was a silver Prius in that spot. It took me a moment to realize but the car on my left had changed too. It was now a......H3. LOL. I thought our two Prii more than canceled out the Hummer.
El Paso is getting there slowly. I see at least 1-2 a day on my morning commute (25 min). There are about 5-6 on Fort Bliss not include my wife's or mine. nah most seem to be pretty oblivious to what is around them. I try to make eye contact to wave but they are too busy. Everyone around here is rushing around, but not as bad as when I visit family in Sacramento or San Francisco.
We see tons in Southern California. The 405 between LA and Orange County has a plethera of them- using the car pool lanes...grin... Everywhere you go there are Prius-- if you have ever been to a Fry's (big computer/electronics store) there are always tons...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(F8L @ Sep 3 2006, 02:10 AM) </div> I have had by Seaside 2005 since last November - there were only a few in the immediate area in the suburbs SW of Boston - but the growth in the past months has been amazing. One day last week, driving about 1.5 miles through my town of 30,000, I saw 3 other Prii!! At one traffic light, there were three of us, each heading in a different direction. I'd love it if we all honked at each other - not sure why we don't? Many prius drivers seem even older than I am and I'm too old to reveal my age!!
I find that odd as well. No other Prius drivers seem to acknowledge eachother. I try to wave and such but they act like they dont see me. :/ The only time I got recognition was yesterday on I-880 and this Asian woman in a Prius actually looked over when I hokked and gave her the big thumbs up. She smiled. Probably thinking I was an idiot for driving the big loud truck LOL
Another surprising "Mecca" of Prii is Sun City, AZ. Seems they're alot like golf carts, so the Sr Citizens love em (speculation). I pass 2-3 a day to/from work in Sun City alone, and that's only 5-10 min of my 45-60 min commute.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(htmlspinnr @ Sep 3 2006, 10:35 AM) </div> I dont doubt it. I'd say about 80% of ther Prius drivers I see are 50+. Nothing against older drivers, I just notice that I am about the youngest I see in my area.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Godiva @ Sep 3 2006, 09:37 AM) </div> Which B&N? I know that there are always a minimum of three Prii in the La Mesa TJ parking lot on a weekend morning. When I was trucking my Daughter to UCSD they were all over the place. UCSD even uses them for mail delivery. Not really "trucking", schlepping might be better!
"Ok, the first time I was in San Rafael a couple weeks ago I saw a ton of Prii. I was all over the Bay today from San Jose, through SF and up to San Rafael and my god everywhere I looked there was a Prius!" That's a Marin thing, not just San Rafael. My personal best sighting was set on Friday. Parked at Bell Market in Mill Valley beside another Prius (just because I could) and then noticed another Prius one car over from the second. Cool, but not unheard of. Finished shopping to find a fourth had pulled up beside mine. Very cool. We're taking over.
In my neighborhood, the parking lot of the Shaw's that's on top of I-90 (grocery store) is Prius mating ground. Every time I go there I see 2-5 other Prii parked and I make a point of parking next to one so my Red can get some action while I'm inside shopping. They are definitely breeding there because I see more and more around here every day.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Sep 3 2006, 12:22 PM) </div> Nah...Action, maybe...but if they were mating, you'd be seeing lotsa baby SmartCars or Insights. B)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Sep 3 2006, 02:22 PM) </div> We should try a Boston meetup for Prii! I think I will scan parking lots for others and park nearby as others are doing.
That's sorta like saying "we should get half the drivers in Boston to meet up!" Ok, so I'm exaggerating. I'm game though.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Salsawonder @ Sep 3 2006, 12:43 PM) </div> Hazard Center, Mission Valley.
Ever notice how Prius like to gather into spontaneous packs? I parked mine at Fry's in Sunnyvale the other day, went into the store, and stepped out a few minutes later to see a pack of three Prii parked in a group around mine!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Ichabod @ Sep 4 2006, 05:08 PM) </div> If the weather would cooperate, we could do a calendar shot for PC - get all the colors together in NE fall scene!! I wouldn't bet on anything this year, though!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(esskay @ Sep 7 2006, 10:56 PM) </div> I was in Berkeley last weekend. There was at least one Prius on each block. Santa Monica does not even come close.
Someone said it above...the 405 is filled with them. I drive the 405 between the 605 and Irvine, and there are tons, especially in the carpool lane. The other day, I counted about 15 other Prii's in my work's parking garage. 3 of us are new, and still lack the carpool stickers
