My 2013 Prius-C flooded, in salt water from Hurricane Helene, 1/2 up the vehicle. I'm reading conflicting opinions that: (A) insurance may pay for repairs as my dealer says yes it is fixable,, (B) others say no-way a hybrid, wiring and both batteries are repairable. Can you give me any clues how to persuade my insurer to appraise car as a total loss? #salt-water-flooded #flooded
have you even gone through the process yet? the insco will need a cost from the dealer to determine if cost exceeds the value of the car. plus, they will have to know hidden damage costs, which means they will incur some charges just to find out. i doubt they will pay for repairs. how many miles on her?
Bisco - TKS for replying. 98,000 miles. Last 6-month dealership servicing showed no problems. I'll contact Travelers Insur and start claim today. ..... GOOD luck and perseverance to others dealing w/ post hurricane damages!
Let your steps be guided by this TSB: T-SB-0229-12 In section 1 you'll just be making sure the vehicle is safe for storage and away from other valuable things. In section 2 you'll be working out the level of the damage. From your description, I'm thinking level 4 is about where you'll end up, but the details are in the TSB. Then section 3 will be about how (or whether) to approach repair.
