I really don't see it happening on its own. The "Toyota Prius" is already established - it doesn't make sense to drop the Toyota. And I'm sure Toyota want to keep the green chic. I think they probably mean using Prius as the base name of multiple models. Like in the "Toyota Corolla" and "Toyota Corolla Verso" (and the Verso "variants" of the Avensis and Yaris - both of which were totally separate models in Japan. Or all the different cars called variants of "Renault Megane" at some point (base, cabrio, coupe, scenic).

I like the elipses forming a heart idea. That expresses the "hybrid", combination of two power sources working together.
When they made the joke on Knight Rider about KITT's "inner Prius", they didn't include "Toyota". Prius can stand on its own if Toyota decides to go that route...
