Just bought from auction. Prius C 2015 doesn’t start engine. Electro motor tries to start the engine, make a scratch sound, but crankshaft doesn’t even spin. How to fix? What to change? Thanks
Usually that means the hybrid battery (the big one) has been discharged below the lower limit. You can attempt to recharge it yourself- if you are okay working with high voltage and understand how to modify electronics. If you're going to get anywhere with that car, start by getting a diagnostic scanner that can talk to each and every system in there. I recommend the Autel AP2500E, and I have heard good things about the very similar model AP200. This link will tell you how to get a subscription to the actual factory repair manual.
If you hear the sound of MG1 spinning (and you're sure that's the sound you're hearing, say if you have a scan tool showing live data and it shows >0 MG1 RPM then) but the crankshaft doesn't move when MG1 does, something is busted in the transmission or bellhousing.
