So, we've been driving our new Prius C in the snow for a few weeks now (9,300 feet in the Colorado Rockies) and it's been doing great. It's no subaru, but for twice the gas mileage, I'm not complaining. I've got Ipike studded snow tires on it, and it does great on icy and snow packed roads, and even through up to about 6 inches of fresh (powdery) snow -- once it starts dragging the bottom it loses steam, but till then.. not bad. Averaging just under 47mpg, which it was only just over 47 before with the summer tires (lots of mountains -- if we keep it in the flatlands, high 50's is easy). I had to have my girlfriend come rescue me in the stuck 4x4 ford ranger one night (with bad tires on the Ranger...). One thing I've found is that if you blast the heat first thing, the mileage suffers... but it'll recover after about 15 minutes of driving, when the engine heats up.
