Hi all, I bought 2013 Prius C last year that had a very low KM. In the past I can sign up for a service at Toyota dealer specifying KM service that I wanted. My odometer is currently at 77000. Recently I moved house and when I try to book online for a service at the service centre near me it give me the option of service for 72 months / 120000 km and it's very expensive. My question is considering the age of the car, do I have to go for 72 months /12000 KM service or is it OK if I go for 80000 KM service despite the age of the car? Thanks.
Pre-packaged service plan recommendations based on KMs driven are a great way to make money "fixing" cars that aren't broken. You could save alot of money studying all the recommendations and learning how to do most of them yourself, which has the added benefit of teaching you how to be aware of how your car is running in much greater detail than depending on others to tell / sell you services that you might not really even yet need.
welcome! some fluids do well with time, others with use. but you'll find arguments here on both sides. i'm at 66,000 miles and go strictly by miles and not time. so it's only oil and filters and inspections for me, but who knows?
Toyota says miles (or kilometers) or months, whichever comes first. That said, if you have a totally mothballed car, that doesn't apply I would think, for at least some of the maintenance. FWIW, Toyota Canada tells me to change the oil and filter every 8000 kms or 6 months. We're lucky if we do 8000 kms in a year, but I'm still changing it every 6 months.
