Hi All, Just joined the forum after searcning online for a potential answer to an issue I'm facing. I own a 2010 Prius with approx 82k miles on it. To avoid confusion, I'm based in London UK. I've got a couple of issues I haven't been able to sort out and was hoping for some advice. 1) When starting in D, I often get a clunk, especially if the car has rolled backwards a little prior to starting. I've now managed to work out that this is regardless of starting with electric or with petrol motor engaged, it appears to be happening with both. I've had the car tested and nothing has been found but it worries me. My thoughts are possibly some kind of engine mount on the way out? 2) At very low engine speeds (regardless of speed) when the petrol engine is running and usually under a light load, I am getting an irritating metallic rattle that appears to be coming from somewhere in the front right. The noise isn't present when it's battery/electric only but I can't test this properly as the car drops out of EV mode at 21mph. There is also no noise at all under bigger throttle openings. I also get what appears to be a single metallic sound if I let go of the throttle (petrol engine stops) and then I accelerate again suddenly forcing the petrol engine to start. I did have some issues with the exhaust rattling further back on the car but these have been addressed (exhaust brackets re-welded). The car doesn't make any sounds over bumps, this is specific to the petrol engine running at low speeds. Any thoughts appreciated!
I'm dealing with almost this exact same thing right now and when you step through it with the gas pedal the gas engine is running perfectly it's not missing's this correct? I cleaned my map sensor and it cleaned this activity up a lot now it's very minimal but it's still there I'm thinking about changing the map sensor that kind of costly here in the States I believe
if the clunk is when you put it in drive, it is the parking pawl releasing. when the car has rolled back or forward on a slope, the sound is more pronounced.
I had an irritating rattle near the right front "A" pillar that would come and go depending on throttle position. Mine occurred during acceleration with light throttle. I fixed my 2011 Prius after reading Technical Service Bulletin T-SB-0064-12 three years ago. I was past the 36 month/36,000 mile warranty period.
If noise didn't come from A piller area, then you might want look into exhaust manifold heat shield. located at the back of the engine towards firewall.. Found one bracket broken off exhaust manifold, and cause rattle noise Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
