I was wondering if the nexcell was viable for the gen 3 plugin. does anyone have info on it more than what is on their website?
They'll be back in stock sometime the second half of this month. And if you use my affiliate link in my signature I'll offer you unlimited tech support indefinitely. As for viability for Gen 3, I put the final prototype for cold weather testing in a Gen3 and Gen2 Prius 2 years ago and it has gone great for both packs. You can read the review here: Dr. Prius Packs Less Than A Year Away? | PriusChat In general the Gen 3 hybrid system puts a greater demand on the same battery pack as Gen 2's hybrid system. So with OEM NiMH prius battery packs it's common that a Gen3 will wear out a pack faster than a Gen2, but that's measured after a decade of use. As far as I can tell, Project Lithium packs will outlive NiMH packs and I'll have way more details about that in 8 or more years.
I've not worked on an early Gen3 Plugin pack yet, but @black_jmyntrn has one of those and probably has figured out what's possible. Currently NexCell isn't selling plugin Prius replacement packs, but if he eventually does him and @black_jmyntrn will most likely be testing it together because they live in the same area.
But I just read in a different post that plugin was not tested yet. Would you advise waiting till it is?
Do you know where the Weber Auto tear down video of an early Gen3 Plugin is? I tried looking for it on youtube for this discussion, but couldn't find it.
