Hi guys, I am the developer of Dr. Prius App, the App currently supports Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 (both NiMH and Lithium) and Lexus Hybrid, only thing left to do is the Prius Gen1 which has becoming very very rare ! I did work with several Gen1 owners from east coast and we did able to extract all the PIDs, however the Gen1 ECU seems to be on the slow side that prevent the App from calling PIDs at once. I am reaching out to this wonderful community to see if anyone in the SoCal area (Los Angeles) that willing to rent me his/her Gen1 for 2 hours at any given day, with compensation of course. Thanks and please PM or reach out to me at support at PriusApp da com Really appreciate all the helps from this PriusChat community! Jack C.
Thank you for the offer Brian, always want to visit Tucson but it is a bit too far from LA, will let you know if family wants to tag along then we could make it happen.
What precisely are you doing ? I am in Los angeles county but not sure i anna lose my car for big period of time
Hi EbonBetta, thank you! The Gen1 prototyping is almost completed, just need to fine tune a few parameters, I found a local repair shop owner has a Gen1, if things go well I can wrap this up next week. Thanks again for the offering. Jack
Hello Jack, Congrats on making your Dr Prius program. Can you help me please? I want to try your Dr Prius program/app, but the version I tried 5.26, demands that I 1) hook up to the web which I do not have near wher the car is, and (presumably send loads of personal information that I want to keep private), and 2) login to a google account - which I refuse to do for privacy protection reasons. How can I try your Dr Prius program without needing to have a web connection and without letting google know I'm using it? Thank you.
I don't think Jack hangs around here. I'd just go to the app or web and use a tech support route to contact. Can't recall if the app has a route, but I know I had an email exchange with him a couple of years back. I probably went thru the website. Very responsive and helpful guy. I don't think full Gen 1 support was possible tho' b/c the Gen 1 data speeds and the like are too slow. I talked to him about a year after this thread was made. IDK if he ever found anyone to rent/borrow from, but it seems full support just wasn't going to be possible, regardless. It does, however, do fine with reading HV battery info, including HV codes. And b/c it can't offer full Gen 1 support last I knew it was free for Gen 1
@DashingDave What exactly are you trying to use or do? The Dr. Prius App is simple to use and requires no signing into anything or purchase for personal use. All you need to use the app is a bluetooth OBD reader. I can call Jack and ask him anything you want to know. By the way as a tester of the Dr. Prius Lithium battery I can say it will be worth the asking price when it becomes available. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Thank you AzusaPrius for your quick response. My Bluetooth device works very well with Torque and other apps. Unfortunately, all Dr Prius versions that I've tried (5.26, 4.1, 3.1, & 2.79)do NOT work as you described. They all REQUIRE a web or data connection. When you start Dr Prius, a big white screen comes up "Checking info" (Another background note states "Problem setting up In-App Billing" - which is worrisome for a "free" app, one version came from Amazon) Then it gives a screen "You must pick an account to save your test record." The account it then opens - demands you open a Google Account. (Google logo and sign in - or create a Google account.) It will not let you try the app. (Try starting Dr Prius after logging out of your google account to see what happens) Then when I try the program out of mobile data range (in a deep canyon) or turn off Mobile data and wifi Dr Prius says -- "Couldn't sign in. You don't have a network connection." I want to try Dr Prius, but refuse to open a Google account. Any workarounds are welcome. If you can spare the time to call Jack I would be grateful, please ask him how we can try Dr Prius without a web connection or a google account. Thank you again for your rapid response. Cheers.
@DashingDave I have never had to sign into any accounts to use the app. I just installed it from the playstore and connected it to my Carista OBD reader. I would only download the app from playstore for android or app store for IOS. I will test my app without data connection tomorrow. All you should need is bluetooth on. @DashingDave I tested what you are talking about. I completely forgot I went through the same thing, you just have to click the email you want to use no password is required. You have nothing to worry about, Jack is a good person and I have met him in person. Use the app and enjoy it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
@DashingDave Also once you do click on your email that is all you need to do, it will not need data or internet after that to use it. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
